Meeting was held at Artistry Stained Glass.  

Moderator Laurie Nessel called meeting to order.

We had two new members join our ASGB group: Nancy Robinson and Gale Finney. The new members received a bead to welcome them into our group.

 

 A reminder for all members, that we need donation beads for the new members bead box at any time. Please give beads to Cynthia Beach Shelton.

Motion was passed to accept last month's meeting minutes.

Reports:

Judi Binderman discussed the new ASGB website, which is now located at www.asgb.org.

 

Since May 4th the website has had 45 unique visitors.

   
 

A links page was discussed by the group.
 

A motion was passed by the group that a “standard” verbal link will be $6.00 per year

   
 

A “premium” link (which would include a picture) will be $12.00 per year. This will help our group to fund the website fees and domain name.

   
 

Membership is required to have a link on the website. Dues for links will be due every year in Jan and pro-rated if joining later then that.

 Carol Saker announced that the Bead Museum will be hosting our next ASGB meeting.

 

Meeting will be June 27th at the Bead Museum in Glendale.

   
 

Carol will be arranging a carpool for those interested as well as emailing members an address and directions to the Bead Museum. Our group will also be given a tour of the new exhibit. If you want to carpool, email Carol your nearest intersection and if you need a ride or are willing to drive and how many people you can take.

Tracy Baginski discussed the next Bead exchange.

 

June challenge will be the “Fish Scale” bead. She will be sending an email out with further instructions for those interested in participating.

   
 

Those that participated in the May challenge had a show and tell and exchange of beads at the end of the meeting.

   
 

Tracy also announced that the “quarterly stretch” challenge of the Bangle Bead, will be due in June.

Raychel Stein discussed next year's Best Bead Show and Lewis Wilson's offer to our group.

 

Lewis has offered to give us free space in return for demonstrations. The area he is offering is two tent areas approx. 10x10 , an alcove space, and the lawn and patio area near there. The dates will be from Feb. 2nd to the 6th at the Best Western Hotel. The room near the area we will have is available for $1000.00.

   
 

An ad hoc committee was formed to organize the show details. Several members volunteered to help with this. Let Raychel know if you are interested in joining the committee.

New Business

July 18th elections 

 

The nominating committee, appointed by the moderator,  will fill the slate of candidates. 

   
 

Any member may nominate someone, including themselves, for any position. 

   
 

Nominations must be received by July 1st.

   
 

By July 2nd, the slate will be emailed by the nominating committee to the members and to the webmaster to download onto website.

   
 

Nominations may be taken on the floor at the July meeting only if there are openings.

   
 

Anyone voting by email must send in their vote to the secretary by the Friday (July 16th) before the July 18th meeting. Anyone voting by email cannot vote at the meeting (only one vote per member).

Volunteers-Elect will take office directly following the July meeting. 

   
 

Any positions not filled by the July election will be voted on by email 2 weeks before, and at the meeting following the meeting during which a nomination or nominations is announced.

A list of the volunteer positions and job descriptions is below:

Moderator-sets the agenda and disseminates it by email to all members a day or two before the meeting; facilitates the regular membership meetings.  Agenda items may be submitted to the moderator by the Friday before each meeting. Meetings include a meet and greet and eat, business, show and tell, and demo.

 Vice-Moderator-  performs the duties of the moderator in their absence, assists the moderator with other duties as they arise.

Secretary-  records the minutes of the meetings and distributes them via email to the members and the webmaster to download onto the website in a timely manner.  

Treasurer- has custody of the ASGB funds, deposits all moneys in the name of the Society in a dedicated account, disburses funds as directed by the Society, renders to the membership at regular meetings an account of all transactions and of the financial condition of the Society, signs all checks of the Society, keeps a register of members in good standing and informs the membership chair of such list. In the event that the treasurer is unable to sign checks, any two of the following elected volunteers may sign in their stead- moderator, vice-moderator, secretary.

Education- arranges workshops and demonstrations outside of regular meetings that further the education of our members and the community at large on the art of glass beadmaking.  

Webmaster- updates the website on a timely basis for the benefit of the members; maintains the account for the website.  

Greeter and Keeper of the Bead Basket- is responsible for bringing the beads to each meeting and seek out new members, welcome them and offer a bead from those donated by members. Only members who have paid their dues are eligible for a bead.  

Programs- arranges demonstrations for each meeting.

Membership- makes sure new members get information on where and when meetings are; contacts  members who have been absent to make sure they are happy with the ASGB and if not, why not and what can be done to remedy the situation.

Newsletter editor-  produces a monthly or bimonthly newsletter that is distributed via email as well as on the website.  

Special Events Chair- coordinates events such as field trips and bead shows. 

Bead Exchange Coordinator- plans quarterly bead challenges and monthly exchanges for group members.  Provide support and encouragement to members so that they feel comfortable attempting new skills and techniques.  Use the exchanges as a way for our members to come together and celebrate each others work and share what was learned in the process.  Notifies members via emails and at monthly members of upcoming exchanges and challenges.  Provides updates to webmaster for posting on AZSGB site. Keeps track of participants, and coordinate participants by keeping them informed of number of beads to make, due dates, and finally distribution of the beads. Upon receipt of beads, photographs participants beads and submits to webmaster. Distributes beads to each participant in bead exchange, and brings to the monthly meeting for distribution, and show-and-tell. For bead challenge:  equitably sort and deliver the challenge item to each participant at subsequent monthly meeting.

Jodi Lindsey is resigning as Secretary. Mario Carillo volunteered to be secretary pro-temp until the election.

   
 

Jean Donaldson reminded everyone about the “Bead of Courage” program and the need for more beads on a continual basis.

 Motion was passed to adjourn meeting.

 Bead exchange participants had show and tell.

 Maria Carrillo brought her new tool, the “Diamond Bicone Bead Roller”. She is taking orders for this tool on her website, www.LePoppet.com as well as at the meeting. Introductory price is $65.00. Maria demonstrated this tool for everyone.
