March 14, 2004 -Meeting was held at Artistry Glass Studio. -The meeting was called to order at 2:20 pm. -Moderator Laurie Nessel welcomed everyone and started the meeting. -A motion was passed to accept last month’s meeting minutes. -We had two new members join our ASGB group: Anita Farrah and Tim Swann. Both new members received a bead to welcome them into our group. -A reminder for all members to please donate beads for the new members bead box at any time. Please give beads to Cynthia Beach Shelton. -Treasurer’s report was given by Juanita Dunn. Group balance stands at $2500.91 as of 3-14-04. Fifty dollars was donated to the Health Care Odyssey Foundation in honor of Robin Foster and Wendy Wyman’s mother. The Hospice sent a thank you note that was shared with the group. -Old Business – The group talked about the way we should handle voting on time- sensitive issues. A motion was passed to use a vote held via email on time sensitive issues. Email votes will have a two-week time limit and the majority of votes will make the deciding the decisions. Those who do not turn in a vote via email will be considered a non-vote. -Jean Donaldson discussed the “Beads of Courage” program. Members handed in donations. A motion was passed that all who are interested in applying for this scholarship can put in their names for a drawing. A winner as well as a second and third runner up will be randomly drawn by a member who is not applying for the scholarship. -For those who do not know what this scholarship is about, Cheryl Cobern Browne discussed this at the last meeting. Beadventures scholarship will be an all expense paid trip to Ireland for ONE person. Thirty different bead societies will each have one representative chosen from their group and then there will be a drawing for one person out of those 30. The ASGB group will be able to have one member represented in this drawing. -Bead exchange for April will be clear beads. All beads must be 100% clear but can be etched, shaped, etc. These beads will be due to Tracy Baginski before the April meeting so she can have time to package them. The quarterly challenge will be in June. This will be a bangle bead. Tracy Baginski will be demonstrating this bead at the next meeting. Participants for the March bead exchange for core formed vessels exchanged their work. Participants of the latticino challenge exchanged their work as well. -Website – Judi Binderman discussed with the group some ideas for the website. A motion was passed for the group to purchase the domain name of AZSGB and to pay the monthly fee which will remove all pop up ads from the website. Judi will investigate and report back with prices on storage space fees and yearly hosting fees. -Judi Binderman will be moving to Florida in April. Laurie Nessel presented a beautiful marble to Judi on behalf of the ASGB to thank Judi for all of her excellent work and time she has devoted to our group and the website! Thank you Judi! Judi will continue to maintain the website for the time being. -As Judi is leaving her position in the ASGB as education coordinator will move to her assistant Marty Beck. -Laurie Nessel brought the books for the group purchases. If you owe her money for your order, please remember to pay her. -Laurie Nessel mentioned that Lewis Wilson has thought about opening a second site for the Best Bead show next year. Raychel Stein will have more information on this for next meeting. -Carol Saker announced that the Bead Museum will be expanding. With this expansion they want to include having a closer relationship with the ASGB. They are open to any ideas, proposals, or suggestions on ways to further our relationship with them. This could include various types of shows. Please forward any ideas to Carol Saker at: dcsaker@earthlink.net -Juanita Dunn also discussed the Bead Museum having offered to grant a portion of fees for teachers to come in for the ASGB. -The group discussed possibly holding a few meetings at the Bead Museum in the future. -Lynn Gustafson announced that there are 2 openings left for Heather Trimlett’s workshop at Glass Artistry this next Sat-Sun March 20-21st. The cost is $400.00 which included all supplies and lunch. -A motion was passed to send an email vote out to the ASGB members to change the ASGB meetings so they will be held on the 3rd Sunday of each month instead of the 2nd Sunday. Members will have two weeks to respond to the email. Those who do not email in with a vote will be considered a non-vote. -Don Merrifield brought a rough draft of Corina Tettinger’s new “Spotlight On”. This publication will be 32 pages and will be on sculptural work. The cost will be $20.00. He will be arranging a group buy.
-Dolly Alhes brought information on the ISGB Gathering. It will be held in Portland Oregon this year from July 29th – August 1st. -Next meeting will be on Sunday, April 18th at 2:00pm. It will be held at Artistry Glass: 904 N. Scottsdale Rd. #D Tempe, AZ
